Mexican-born Abstract Expressionist artist Beatriz Simón has a distinct vision and approach with which she creates large, colorful, and subtly complex paintings. While Beatriz's artistic exploration extends to sculpture, photography, performance art, and graphic design, as a gallery owner it's her painting that I find most interesting.
In true expressive form, Beatriz's creative practice is rooted in themes of self-fulfillment and introspection, which are reflected through her intuitive use of diverse techniques and materials. There is an emotional profundity inherent in her process that I'm drawn to.
The minimalist aesthetic rejects the expectations of perfection that are often dominant in the style. And, as I said above, her paintings are subtly complex—she infuses layers with imperfect human elements like mark making. The more you look, the more you see, and each stroke or scratch on her canvas feels like a story being shared.
