Jeff Wenzel
Denver, CO
Jeff Wenzel, born in 1959 in Denver, led a nomadic early life across Colorado, California, and Alaska. Upon returning to California for postgraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, he immersed himself in abstract expressionism. Focusing on sculpture and painting, he honed his craft under the mentorship of renowned abstract expressionist sculptor Peter Voulkos.

Guided by influential figures Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown in the Bay Area figurative movement, Wenzel refined his drawing and painting skills. His academic journey culminated in 1981 with a Master of Arts degree and a subsequent Master of Fine Arts degree in 1983, solidifying his academic and artistic foundations.
Beyond academia, Wenzel contributed as a teaching assistant and later shared his expertise by teaching pottery and ceramic sculpture at various Bay Area institutions. Returning to Denver in 1988, he expanded his artistic pursuits, venturing into large-scale paintings with mixed materials on paper and wood, while continuing his exploration of clay.
