I came across Serbian Abstract Expressionist artist Svetlana Ninković on Instagram, where she showcases her large, bold, and vivid paintings. When I set out to write this blog post about her, I discovered that there is an unusual absence of information online about her.

What I know is that she's from Belgrade and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia, where she majored in graphics. She paints large-scale using bring colors and expressive gestures, producing stunning paintings that are true to the Abstract Expressionist tradition.
There's a provocative performativity to her creative process that she has shared on Instagram. I recently discovered that she has actually participated in interactive art performances. Last year in 2022, Svetlana facilitated an art performance in which the public collaborated with her in the creation of large paintings. I love absolutely this idea!
