Want to build a personal abstract art collection? Your options are endless, so where do you even start? The prospect may feel overwhelming or exciting, or both. Ultimately, curating your own collection of abstract art for your home is a highly personal endeavor. Here are my top four tips to get you started:
1. Define Your Aesthetic
What's your style? Abstract art has many, from geometric to expressive and minimalist styles. Figure out which ones resonate with you, personally, and which style(s) complements your home’s design. Do you prefer bold, statement pieces or softer, more understated works?
2. Focus on Color
Consider the existing color palette in your home. Abstract art can either harmonize with or contrast against your room’s tones. Color also has the power to evoke emotion, so consider how different colors make you feel and whether that fits with your desired ambiance.
3. Mix and Match
Experiment with different types of abstract art, including expressionist, minimalist, and neo-expressionist. Also consider diversifying the formats, such as originals, prints, and sculptures. Combining various mediums and styles can add further depth, texture, and interest to your collection.
4. Trust Your Instincts
This is my most important tip! Art is personal, so let your intuition guide you. Choose pieces that speak to you emotionally and that resonate with your vision and style. When your collection truly reflects your individual tastes, your home will feel both personal and inviting.
