Love for Colorful Abstract Art

on July 15, 2024
This post is a bit of an antithesis to last week's about simple abstract art. Yes, I'm drawn to the power of minimalist art with monochrome or limited palettes. But I seem to be most attracted to vibrant, colorful abstract art. As far as I'm concerned, the more color, the better!

Gerhard Richter's Colorful Abstract Art

Take the colorful abstract art of German artist Gerhard Richter, for example (see below).

'Abstract Painting' by Gerhard Richter, 2016.

Richter's vibrant interplay of colors is mesmerizing. His paintings are exciting and energetic, but in an almost contemplative, calming way. Part of Richter's magic lies in his technique in which he uses tools beyond the boring old paintbrush. He works with layers of bold colors that he pulls apart with his tools to create stunning paintings that resemble a photo taken from the window of a moving vehicle.

Jackson Pollock's Colorful Abstract Art

And my favorite paintings by the iconic abstract expressionist artist, Jackson Pollock, are his most colorful ones. With his splatter technique, Pollock created complex layers of colors and movement. His non-splatter paintings (see below) are also fluid and lively, with colors and lines that stir my imagination.

In a world so often defined by boundaries, colorful abstract art offers a reminder of the endless possibilities of expression and the profound impact that a vibrant abstract painting can make.
